This piece is a result of selection of fabric experiments I conducted. I was
investigated the different ways of creating texture within fabrics; here I
combined layering fabric with a repetitive stitch motion on a sewing machine. I
also played around with how colour attracts the eye to different areas of the
piece.
This is another
example of work from a project in which I was looking at different ways
of creating texture. Here I created three layers of ruffles by gathering fabric and then layered them on top of one and
other and used water colours to add colour to the piece.
20 minute
life drawing that I did using ink.
20 minute life drawing where I experimented with colour and using layers of paint.
Fabric
piece created using appliqué, inspired by images and
videos from Spaghetti Junction in Birmingham.
A page from
my sketch book inspired by the Billie Holiday song
Strange Fruit. I used the imagery from the lyrics of the song to create a
sketch. I used mainly monochrome because it reflects the
mood portrayed through the song.
A sketchbook piece which investigates layers and folds. By pinching the
back of a interesting surface it created a new surface which was then stitched loosely
over the top with elastic.
This is a design
idea that I created for a sculpture based upon the work of Chiharu Shiota.
This is my first
experimental sculpture based on the work of Chiharu Shiota. It was created by wrapping thread around copper wire to create a woven, lace-like
surface.
In this second sculpture, I created a random frame from copper wire by soldering the edges together. I then repeatedly wrapped thread
around the structure to create a surface into which I stitched some scraps
of nylon over the top. This gives certain areas of the piece opacity and
highlights others.
In this print work from my sketchbook, I created a lino based upon
some sketches I had done whilst in London. On the left I have repeated the
print twice turning the lino around, whilst on the right I have layered fabric
on the page and printed on the surface to create different effects.
This fabric
piece was created from my prints. I then machine and hand sewed into the prints to link them together. The fabric has been pinched at the back to
give the piece layers and areas of movement.
